Why should I go?
The annual Beacon Hill Art Walk opens the neighborhood to over 100 Boston artists who display and sell a variety of different original handmade artworks on its streets. The art includes a diverse range of media, including painting, collage, photography, and handblown glass.
The Art Walk will stretch into the private courtyards, alleyways, and gardens of residents, who invite artists to set up displays in these usually hidden nooks and crannies of Beacon Hill. Some of these gardens will even play host to various bands and musical acts, filling the cobblestone streets with the sounds of classical, klezmer, and folk music. In the past, the groups have included klezmer ensembles, string quartets, folk groups, fiddle groups, and Native American flute.
Since its creation in 1990, the event has become extremely popular among locals and tourists, attracting thousands of visitors each year and turning Boston’s most sought-after neighborhood into an open-air art gallery. While the walk began as a way for locals to host art shows in their homes, it has also become a way for artists to connect with gallery owners, restaurateurs, and potential customers.
Whether you’re looking to purchase a new painting or simply peruse the works and the area, the Beacon Hill Art Walk is an ideal way to dip your toes into Boston’s flourishing art scene.
